BLUE MOON SAILING CLUB “BMSC”

The BMSC was founded in 2014 to provide a safe, convenient, comfortable, productive and educational environment for the purpose of enjoying Lake Michigan to its fullest.

The club is designed for sailors who want the benefits of boat ownership without the hassles.  As a club member, you don’t have to buy a boat, you don’t have to rent a slip, and you don’t have to buy insurance.  It is a great way to learn to sail and save money for your own boat!

You begin by signing up for a two (2) hour lesson and we will give you the basics and introduce you to Blue Moon and give you an idea of what dock life is all about.  The lesson consists of “classroom” instruction where you will learn the names of the parts of the sailboat, the point of sales and rules of the waterway, which usually takes about 30 minutes.  We will then learn to rig the boat for sailing, harbor parking, learn about the motor and how to start the engine (example: putting fuel in).  We will practice driving the boat and then take the boat out sailing. During the sail, you will be tested on your classwork.

One of the great advantages of being in the club is the boating camaraderie. You will be added to a text message group, where members send out a message to the group to reserve the boat and to see if anyone else would like to sail with them.  This is a great way to meet people with common interests.

We also have a barbecue grill, table and chairs on the dock for when we are just hanging out together.
